Service is an essential element of Rotaract and there is no exception for Interota 2020 Hong Kong. As People of Action, participants will get involved in serving the local community in Hong Kong through Peace 2020 Service Marathon, which will last for 2,020 minutes, non-stop as a group. The 2020-minute service marathon symbolizes the year 2020 as well as Rotaractors’ endurance to fulfill our motto "Fellowship through Service".
Local tours of different themes will take place in parallel with Peace 2020 Service Marathon, such that participants will take turns to join the tours and services in groups. There will be three different themes for the local tours: Green Hong Kong, Culture of Hong Kong and Secret of Hong Kong. Participants will travel around Hong Kong and take part in workshops or guided tours according to the chosen theme, in order to explore and experience a distinct side of the city. After the tours, participants would have time to share and exchange their experiences with each other.
To embody worldwide harmony, participants are expected to dress up in traditional costumes of their country or culture for attending Cultural Night, during which dinner will be served. Cultural performance will be the highlight of the night. Participants can form teams to represent their countries or districts on stage by performances. Besides, each performing team can choose an approved local charitable organization in Hong Kong to raise funds for through their performance. Based on the number of votes received from the audience for the performance, a grant will be made as donation to the chosen charity. Cultural Night will not only be a stage for showcasing talents and unique cultures from all around the world, but also a platform for raising awareness and making contributions towards the local community.
Rotaract Carnival is a brand-new concept which is comprised of House of Friendship, Graduation and Countdown. Everyone will enjoy this fruitful and relaxing evening programme after the 2020-minute-long Peace 2020 Service Marathon cum Hong Kong Tour.
House of Friendship is an occasion for Rotaractors from different parts of the world to get to know each other, making new connections and reuniting with old partners. Not only it is an occasion for socializing, it is also a platform for cultural exchange and an opportunity to join leaders, exchange ideas and take action. In addition, Rotaractors will be invited to organize booths to promote their own districts and showcase projects run by their districts, so that participants can be connected with different districts, and thus multi-district or international service projects can be fostered in future.
Apart from House of Friendship, Graduation and Countdown will be another highlight of Rotaract Carnival. 30 June 2020 will be a remarkable date for all participants to celebrate the fruitful year behind them (Rotary Year 2019-2020) and express their blessings to the incoming board members for the year ahead (Rotary Year 2020-2021). Moreover, since the official age for Rotaract membership is from 18 to 30 years old, some of the Rotaractors will be turning 31 years old and graduating from Rotaract in 2020. It will be an occasion to pay tribute to their contributions to Rotaract and to the community in past years, and to pass on their spirit to the new generation.
